Ephman,

Thank you! What a great question!

Your comment about Technorati prompted me to write a whole article on this topic, which is actually about using multiple means of promoting your blog or Web site so it gets noticed and visited.

Mark,

Indeed, I've continued to check the "claim on this blog with Technorati, and as of today (December 16, 2009) the notation still reads:

"Nov 24, 2009. We have successfully crawled your blog and found the claim token, and your claim is now awaiting review."

It seems that the number of blogs is expanding so quickly that Technorati can't keep up with it's confirmation process.

Offering great products, services and/or events that people want enough to pay for is certainly an important part of business success. As is exceptional customer service. But these things alone, although necessary, aren't sufficient.

Marketing is the essential piece of the puzzle that makes it possible for people to find out that you're there for them, so that they can consider becoming your customer.

Without marketing, you may have a better mousetrap, but it will just end up sitting on a shelf in your garage.

To be (more) successful in business, master marketing, or join forces with someone who has.

While I quite enjoy the in-person "Biz Boost!" events we hold regularly in Southern California, I'm very excited about offering interactive Q&A sessions about business strategy and development, marketing, and other business success topics virtually, so that you can participate and benefit from wherever you are.

I look forward to having you on the call.

As a Visionary Strategist, topics related to avoiding business failure and enhancing the possibility / probability of business success are near and dear to me.

I firmly believe in the principle of "Find a want, and fulfill it." (That quote is by me.)

One of the fastest ways to ask your market's audience members what they want is by using online surveys.

For simple surveys, give http://www.SurveyMonkey.com a look. Although the free version limits the number of respondents to each specific survey / poll, you'll be able to garner enough information to determine how to move forward (e.g. act on the results, seek a larger sampling, etc.).

The second "Biz Boost" gathering was yet another great success!

My favorite aspects of these events is the diversity of people who come, representing a wide variety of businesses, and the depth and breadth of the questions asked.

During this session, we focused a great deal on "Web presence" - what it is, and how to use the Internet effectively as part of your business development and success strategy.

While we will continue to hold "Biz Boost" gatherings as "real-world" events, I'll be holding a "virtual" "Biz Boost" via teleconference on Thursday, December 17th from 7:30 to 9:00 AM Pacific (10:30 AM to Noon, Eastern).

Watch for more information about how to enroll.

Alex Mandossian states: "Marketing changes minds. Promotion changes behaviors." I believe that to be true.

And I also believe that" "Marketing changes hearts (emotions)."

The "Black Friday" story told in this post demonstrates that excellent marketers can change people's perceptions - what they think, how they feel, even what they believe.

This is a great power. And as Stan Lee so eloquently stated (with inspiration from other sources, but not in these exact words): "With great power comes great responsibility."

Learn to market. Learn to change minds and hearts. Learn to promote. Learn to influence people to take action.

Do this with a high set of ethical and moral standards, and use your power to influence people for good.
